The lily is the flower most closely associated with funerals in this country, and it is chosen for its stillness as much as its appearance. A lily spray does not look busy. The blooms are large and few, so the tribute reads as calm and deliberate.
Lilies also carry a strong scent, which some families value and others would rather avoid. It is worth saying if you have a preference either way.
